Four Killeen ISD seniors have been recognized as National Merit Commended Students by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
This distinction is awarded to students who score among the highest-performing Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test nationwide. Commended Students demonstrate academic promise and excellence, according to the award description.
National Merit Commended Students include Hayun Choi and Krishna Montoya of Harker Heights High School; Juan Carsten Essah of KISD Early College High School and Dylan Layman Killeen High School.
“To have students recognized at multiple campuses across our district reflects the talent, dedication, and hard work of both our students and educators,” said Director for Advanced Academics Jennifer Roden. “We’re honored to celebrate this success districtwide.”
“Commended are among the nation’s most academically talented students and stand out in the college admissions process,” she pointed out.
“We’re extremely proud of the accomplishments of our Advanced Academics students and encourage every campus to highlight their achievements, fostering a culture of academic excellence and showing all students what’s possible through hard work and dedication.”
Earlier in the fall, KISD announced Killeen High School senior Harvey Morris earned the status of National Merit Semifinalist. He continues in the process to reach finalist status and compete for scholarships.
